With over 658 identified manufacturers supporting the utility-scale developers in the solar, wind and battery storage sectors, only 12 were found to be minority-and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs). This report aims to assess opportunities where MWBEs can be introduced and developed, ultimately improving the overall supply chain diversity in the renewable energy and battery storage sectors.
The report finds that increasing funds and investments towards MWBEs, connecting MWBE suppliers to downstream purchasers, and incentivizing and de-risking MWBE procurement are the major areas of opportunity to diversify supply chain manufacturing in the renewable energy and battery storage sectors. Other key findings highlight the difficulties of scaling MWBEs, as well as identifying them in the first place due to inconsistencies among certifications and reference lists.
