Massachusetts continues to advance its climate goals and strengthen its position as a national leader in clean energy and climatetech. This report, commisioned by MassCEC, cites that the Commonwealth’s clean energy industry has doubled in size since 2010 and employs 115,291 direct clean energy workers as of 2024, adding more than 5,200 jobs over the past year and growing faster than the overall state economy.

Findings highlight the central role of Energy Efficiency, Demand Management, and Clean Heating and Cooling, which account for roughly two-thirds of all clean energy jobs, as well as the rapid growth of Clean Transportation, which grew by 22 percent over the previous year.

The report also demonstrates clean energy’s growing contribution to the Massachusetts economy: clean energy contributed $15.9 billion to the Commonwealth’s Gross State Product in 2023, increasing by more than $1 billion from the prior year and outpacing overall state GSP growth over the longer term.

As Massachusetts works toward net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, these findings provide a data-driven foundation for strategies that support continued clean energy job growth, expand equitable workforce pathways, strengthen clean energy businesses, and position the Commonwealth as a global hub for climate innovation.
